Andersonville Entertainment & Recreation

Located north of Wrigley field, Andersonville, which is considered part of Edgewater, offers close proximity to much of what Chicago has to offer. Accessible to the Red Line on Chicago’s elevated train line, Lake Shore Drive, and Ashland Avenue, transportation could not be easier. With a short bike ride to the beach and the busy Clark/Foster area, a wide variety of entertainment and recreation options are available to Andersonville and Edgewater residents.

Like most of Chicago, Andersonville is home to an exciting and active nightlife, including a variety of unique restaurants, fabulous cafes and great nightclubs, many with live music. Clark Street, which is the main street for commercial property in Andersonville, is well-known for its eclectic collection of restaurants, including Middle Eastern, European, Asian, Swedish, and more. In fact, there is a proud history of Swedish culture in Andersonville; many of the restaurants serve such Swedish favorites as lingonberries, lutefisk, and the seasonal drink, “Glog”

Privately owned shops and salons bring a unique charm to Andersonville. Centrally located on Clark Street in an area also known as SoFo, Andersonville residents enjoy such unique shops as a designer store for the middle-aged woman, a stationery store with hand silk-screened designs, plus fun and funky thrift stores.

Andersonville also serves as a home to many performing and visual arts organizations that bring wonderful exhibits and concerts to the neighborhood. The Chicago Filmmakers, which frequently sponsors film screenings, has an office on North Clark Street. The Las Manos gallery presents artwork by artists in varying stages of their careers at reasonable prices. The Swedish American Museum, still a neighborhood icon and a stronghold for the local Swedish culture, keeps the historic foundation of Andersonville alive.

Andersonville Recreation

Located so close to the lake, Andersonville residents enjoy water sports, swimming, sunbathing (make sure to wear sunscreen!), and picnics at the water’s edge. Running and biking paths line the entire stretch of Lake Michigan beach and are open to enjoy all year round.

Also very close to Chicago, residents of Andersonville are a thirty minute train ride away from all of the entertainment and recreation of downtown. From performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, local operas or ballets to sporting events of one of the fifteen major professional teams that Chicago is so proud of, residents of Andersonville have no excuse to be bored.
