Andersonville Real Estate
Andersonville, located within the community of Edgewater, is one of the 77 official communities of Chicago with well-defined borders and identity. Once considered part of Lakeview Township, a north Chicago suburb, Andersonville boasts great lifestyle, cultural, and economic diversity among its residents.
The Andersonville Community
At one time, Andersonville was primarily populated by Swedish immigrants. To this day, Andersonville maintains a strong Swedish presence with landmarks including several Swedish delis and well-known breakfast spots. Andersonville’s business district consists of mostly privately and locally-owned restaurants, shops, boutiques, pubs, and more. Shopping is primarily found on North Clark Street in an area known as South Foster, or SoFo. Here are just a few of the unique commercial enterprises in Andersonville:
Studio 90: designer clothing for the middle-aged
Trillium: unique wearable art coupled with a beauty salon, Salon 10, upstairs
Paper Trail: paper and stationary with hand silk-screened patterns
The Right Place: clothing resale store
In close proximity to the lake and downtown, Andersonville is minutes away from the beach and waterfront activities as well as all of the entertainment, cultural, and sporting events that the city has to offer.
Andersonville Real Estate Prices
Andersonville homes for sale can vary widely in price. Properties are available for as little as $150,000 but there are also some very nice homes for over $1 million. As with any neighborhood, the price of homes will vary depending on the size, area, and amenities.
As a result of the 1980s real estate boom, wood frame houses, townhomes, and condominiums line the streets of Andersonville. Some of the older homes, which are protected by historical preservation laws, are prime candidates for those in search of a fixer-upper.
Currently, Andersonville is experiencing a surge in public construction projects. Over the past few years, city utilities, sidewalks, and street lamps have undergone constant renewal, replacement, and construction, resulting in a renewed attraction from businesses and residential property developers.
