Chicago entertainment has it all.
Chicago Sports
In 2006, The Sporting News named Chicago the “best sports city in the United States”. With 15 professional sports teams that range from mainstream baseball, football, and basketball to soccer, lacrosse, and women’s professional sports, they had every reason to give Chicago this title.
Some of the more popular Chicago teams include the Chicago Bears, The Cubs, The White Sox, and The Bulls. The Chicago Bears have won 8 NFL championship games and one Super Bowl game. America’s favorite underdog team, the Cubs still draw crowds despite not having won a World Series for over a hundred years. In 2006, the White Sox won the World Series establishing them as an adored Chicago team, especially among residents of Chicago’s South Side. One of the most successful basketball teams in the world, the NBA Chicago Bulls became untouchable in the late 80’s and early 90’s when star player Michael Jordan dominated the court.
Women’s basketball also holds a strong position in Chicago sports. The Chicago Sky plays at the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion and list a roster of some of the most promising players in female basketball.

Chicago Festivals
The Grant Park Music Festival, one of the most popular festivals in Chicago, is a summer concert series that takes place in Chicago’s beautiful Millennium Park. Highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, it is the only free classical music summer concert series that exists in the United States. Chicago residents and tourists enjoy nightly concerts by this top-notch orchestra and also are welcome to observe daily rehearsals that are open to the public.
Another popular outdoor summer event, Chicago’s Summerdance Festival, offers group dance classes in ballroom, line dancing, swing dance, and various ethnic dances. Some of the best live bands Chicago has to offer accompany the participants in a free day of dancing fun. Classes are held in Millennium Park’s Spirit of Music Garden on the 3,500 sq. ft. dance floor.
The Irish American Heritage Festival, one of the favorite Celtic festivals in the Midwest, features live local and international music of Ireland on four stages! Traditional Irish step-dancing and Irish food accompany the music, along with several activities geared toward children. Lasting three days, the proceeds from this event benefit the Irish American Heritage Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the strong Irish heritage in Chicago.
