Edgewater, bound by Lake Michigan, Foster Ave., Ravenswood Ave. and Devon Ave. has the highest population of any other Chicago neighborhood. With a skyline of apartment buildings, condominiums and mid-rise homes, Edgewater residents enjoy being part of a close-knit urban community.
Edgewater is also home to several Chicago dining and drinking landmarks. The Edgewater community offers many affordable living options. One-bedroom condos range from the low $100,000s to the upper $200,000s. Two and three bedroom units (rehabs or brand-new construction) are usually priced between $300,000 and $500,000, depending on the square footage, location and finishes.
While most high-rise buildings are located along Sheridan Road, two to four flats and single-family homes, priced from $600,000 to over $1 million, are mainly found between Broadway and Clark. Properties around Clark Street are increasing in popularity, due to the recent business development of that area.
Edgewater Transportation
Edgewater is an approximate 30 minute ride into downtown Chicago by bus or train. Edgewater residents enjoy the convenience of easy access to the “L”s red line, with stops at Granville, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr, and Berwyn and equally easy access to the Ravenswood Metra Station.
Edgewater Neighborhoods
Andersonville, located within the community of Edgewater, is one of the 77 official communities of Chicago with well-defined borders and identity. Once considered part of Lakeview Township, a north Chicago suburb, Andersonville boasts great lifestyle, cultural, and economic diversity among its residents. In Andersonville, you will find primarily 2-6 flat buildings with a few single family homes, most of which are on the West side of Ashland.
Edgewater Beach is the area directly along Lake Michigan following Lake Shore Drive and Sheridan Road. There are many public and private beaches, as the name suggests. Here you will find many high-rise buildings that give spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Chicagoland.
