Evanston Real Estate

Evanston, home of Northwestern University, is the first Suburb north of Chicago along Lake Michigan.  Evanston is considered part of Chicago’s North Shore region and has a population of over 74,000.  It is bordered by Skokie to the west, Wilmette to the north, and Lake Michigan to the east.

Known as the dining capital of the North Shore, Evanston boasts numerous 5 star restaurants, premium steak houses, world class barbeque, and plenty of bars and pubs to cater to the Northwestern and local crowd alike.  Live music can be heard at many of these establishments including Jazz, traditional Irish and Bluegrass, Indie Rock and blues. Many of these establishments can be found either along the Central Street corridor or downtown near the intersection of Davis Street and Sherman Avenue.

Evanston was once part of a larger territory called the Grosse Pointe, and for a time, Ridgeville.  Northwestern was established in 1855 and in 1857; the city was renamed after one of its founders, John Evans.

Evanston’s lakefront parks and sandy beaches are a popular attraction.  There are five public swimming beaches and one dog friendly beach within the Evanston city limits.  Residents enjoy using Evanston’s boat launch to access Lake Michigan or head to Dempster Street Beach to rent sailboats and kayaks where they offer both private and group lessons.

Evanston has a thriving arts scene which hosts yearly events such as the Ethnic Arts Festival, the Lakeshore Arts Festival, and the Starlight Concert Series.  Live concerts and theatre productions occur year round at Pick-Steiger Concert Hall, Cahn Auditorium, and the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, home to the world renowned Pivin Theatre.

The Northwestern Wildcats bring nationally covered Big 10 sports to Ryan Field and Welsh-Ryan Arena.  In addition to football and the men’s and woman’s basketball teams, NU hosts division 1 play in soccer, lacrosse, baseball, golf, tennis, softball, swimming, field hockey, volley ball, fencing, and wrestling.

With so much to offer, from lakeside fun to sports programs, dining and shopping to theatre and the arts, Evanston is the jewel on the crown that is the North Shore.
