Lake Forest, home of Lake Forest College and headquarters for the Chicago Bears, is one of the most affluent communities in the country.  Located along Lake Michigan, Lake Forest is 30 miles north of downtown Chicago in Lake County.  Bordered by Lake Michigan on the East, Lake Forest extends south from Lake Bluff, down to Ft. Sheridan, with Libertyville and Vernon Hills to the West.

Lake Forest’s downtown area, known as Market Square, is located near the intersection of Deerpath Road and Western Avenue.  It is the central location for boutique shopping, banking and other professional services, and nightlife.  Many restaurants such as the Deerpath Inn and The Egg Harbor Café welcome commuting residents home as they arrive from downtown Chicago at the conveniently located Metra platform.

The city of Lake Forest was founded around Lake Forest College in 1857.  Originally, city planners laid roads that would limit access to the city to discourage outside traffic and help preserve the serenity the college enjoyed.  Much more accessible now, Lake Forest still has the “away from it all” feel that attracts many professionals who work in downtown Chicago, including at Soldier Field on Sundays.  The Lake Forest Open Lands Association has helped maintain the tranquility of the area by acquiring over 700 acres within city limits, and forming six nature preserves with over 12 miles of walking paths.

Lake Forest’s most popular waterfront attraction is Forest Park Beach.  This 29+ acre park is open year round and offers both beach and grassed areas for swimming, fishing, sailing and other activities.  The facility offers sheltered pavilions, a fishing pier, boat launching ramp and storage area, walking paths and a concession stand open during the summer months. Sailing classes and camps, sailboat and kayak rentals, volleyball nets, and grills are also available.

Additionally, Lake Forest Parks and Recreation offer tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball and golf.  There are also 3 private golf courses; Onwentsia, Knollwood, and Conway Farms.

Older Historic homes as well as newer or recently updated homes can be found east of Skokie Highway (US 41).  3bedroom homes start in the low $400,000 with a median price of $735,000.  Newer construction can be found in properties east of Skokie Highway.  3bedroom homes start in the $500,000-600,000’s with a median price of $835,000.  Lake Forest does offer condo options, 2 bedrooms starting in the low $200,000.  Additionally, luxury town homes can be found starting at $1.4 million.
