Rogers Park Entertainment & Recreation

Even though Rogers Park, one of Chicago’s most diverse communities, is in close proximity to the recreation and entertainment that has become a trademark of Chicago, residents of Rogers Park don’t need to go far to find what they’re looking for because they can probably find it right in their own neighborhood.

 Rogers Park Entertainment

Rogers Park has a great selection of restaurants.  From ethnic or cultural restaurants to casual places that just have plain ‘ol good eating, here are some of the neighborhood locals’ favorite places.

 Amphora

This Mediterranean restaurant is a casual restaurant well-known for high quality and reasonable prices.  The portions are big, so be sure to bring a healthy appetite.

 Cafe Suron

Located in a refurbished tea house, Persian cuisine is the specialty of this restaurant. This beautiful restaurant serves the more unique Persian dishes that similar restaurants do not offer.

Gruppo di Amici (circle of friends)

An Italian restaurant, this friendly establishment serves Roman style food and offers a large selection of beers and wines.

There are also several coffeehouses, bars, and pubs in the area.  Many offer live music and art exhibits. Some of those choices are:

  • Cafe Descartes (coffee house)
  • Bruno's Lounge
  • Candlelite Bar & Grille
  • Champions Tavern
  • Fiddlers Pub
  • The Light House Tavern
  • Poitin Stil Irish Pub
  • Speakeasy Supper Club

Also, keep your eyes open for theaters and small music venues that have recently been popping up throughout Rogers Park. This community has become a favorite among artists largely due to the recent initiative between local business and artists called The Rogers Park Business and Artists Networking Group.

 Rogers Park Recreation

Located between two university campuses, Loyola University and Northwestern University in Evanston, there is always a college sporting event right in the neighborhood.  These universities also sponsor several cultural events, lectures, and discussions open to the public year-round.

Bordered to the East by Lake Michigan, there is never a lack of summer activity in Rogers Park.  The lakefront offers court spots for beach volleyball and tennis, picnic areas, barbecue plots, swimming, sailing, and other water sports.

Rogers Park is close enough to Chicago to be near all of the culture and nightlife the city has to offer.  Concerts by the world-famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra, nights at the Lyric Opera House, a huge selection of  theater venues (including ensemble theater and Second City improve style groups), art exhibits, and much more are all a short train ride away.

If you just need to go yell for your favorite professional sports team, you have more than fifteen to choose from in the Chicago area. From professional baseball, football, and basketball to lacrosse, soccer, and women’s basketball, there is something for everyone in Chicago sports. There is even an arena football team, two hockey teams, two baseball teams, including the world’s most-loved underdog baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
