Uptown, Chicago Real Estate
Uptown, once a summer resort area in the early 20th century, is situated at the northern edge of Lincoln Park. Bordered by Lake Michigan on the East, Uptown extends from Foster (North) down to Irving Park (South), with Ravenswood completing Uptown’s boundaries to the West.
While Uptown hosts a variety of restaurants, shops and bars, it is perhaps best known as the home of such musical venues such as the Aragon Ballroom, the Riviera Theater, and the well-known Green Mill Jazz Club. All are located within a half block of Uptown’s main intersection at Lawrence and Broadway.
Community pride is strong in Uptown, with many residents supporting organizations such as the Uptown Chicago Commission and Buena Park Neighbors. Many not-for-profit organizations are based in Uptown, including the noted People’s Music School (est. 1976), which offers tuition-free, classical music education to anyone in the community.
Uptown also contains two public beaches, Foster Beach and Montrose Beach, as well as a dog beach (located at the northern edge of Montrose Beach). Montrose Harbor, a marina near Montrose Beach houses Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.
Covering the northern edge of Lincoln Park, Uptown has easy access to soccer and athletic fields, the lakefront bicycle/running path, Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary, playgrounds and sports facilities.

Little Vietnam, surrounding the Argyle stop on the CTA’s Red Line, offers mostly apartment living (three-flats, six-flats and mid-rises), and is home to a variety of Asian food stores and Vietnamese, Thai, Laotian, and Chinese restaurants.
Margate Park, on the eastern border of Uptown, hosts quiet, tree-lined streets and ornate, historic mansions and mid-rises. The area surrounding Margate Park (Bryn Mawr and Sheridan) has undergone a revitalization of sorts, and many of the buildings have been renovated to recapture the architectural style of Uptown’s glory days in the early to mid-1900s.
